We warmly welcome over 50s and value their wisdom, experience and sense of fun. They are actively involved in every area of church life and mingle with people of all ages. Many join in with country walks, park runs and quiz nights or volunteer for children's holiday clubs. Some may be reassured to know that there are large print Bibles, padded seats, disabled parking and a hearing loop.
Those who are available during the day get to know others over a monthly light buffet lunch. We have a wide range of interesting speakers. For example, the programme includes: a "Gardener's World" quiz with gardening tips; a visit from our local councillor; the inside story from a cast member of TV's Dad's Army and Grantchester; a chance to meet a "hearing dog" and learn how they are trained, and crafts for those who want to try them.
After lunch we interview a church member about their life and faith, or hear a brief Christian perspective on a topical issue. There is no charge for lunch but some may wish to make a voluntary contribution to church funds. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month apart from August from 11.45am until 1.15pm in the main church building.
For those who want to get together more often, Coffee Pot is a community drop-in with soup or sandwiches, cake and coffee, and a short thought for the day from the Bible with an opportunity to ask for prayer. We meet at 11.45am - 1.15pm most Wednesdays.
Most church members are linked to a small group for Bible discussion, prayer and support. They meet around the city in church members' homes most Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. There's also a women's group on Thursday mornings and occasional weekend events for men, and a short course for those exploring the Christian faith or who want a refresher on the basics for beginners.
